Brake fluid plays a crucial role in maintaining the performance of a car’s braking system, which is essential for safe driving.
Different types of brake fluids are available on the market, each with its own characteristics and quality that directly affect the condition and durability of the braking components.
By choosing the right brake fluid, your car's braking system can function optimally, improve braking power, and reduce the risk of overheating. So, what are the types of brake fluids for cars? Let’s take a closer look!
Below are several types of car brake fluid you can choose for your vehicle, complete with their pros and cons. Keep reading to learn more!
The first type of brake fluid for cars is DOT 3, which contains glycol ether and has the main characteristic of being water absorbent or hygroscopic. Even though it absorbs water, the fluid’s consistency remains the same after mixing.
DOT 3 has the lowest boiling point compared to other brake fluids at around 206 degrees Celsius.
However, DOT 3 must be replaced regularly. If not, it can damage natural rubber parts, car paint, and even cause rust to form.
DOT 4 is commonly used in older cars with braking systems that generate higher heat.
This type of brake fluid is easy to find and has a higher boiling point than DOT 3 at around 230 degrees Celsius for dry and 155 degrees Celsius for wet.
DOT 4 is also made from glycol ether but has a lower hygroscopic nature, meaning it absorbs less water. However, it still has the potential to damage paint and cause corrosion within the braking system.
In terms of price, DOT 4 is more expensive than DOT 3, but it offers better heat resistance and is suitable for vehicles with high performance braking needs.
Unlike DOT 3 and DOT 4, DOT 5 is silicone-based, which means it does not absorb water and has a higher boiling point.
This makes DOT 5 ideal for all types of rubber brake parts and for use in humid environments.
On the downside, DOT 5 has lower lubricating properties and requires more effort when braking.
It’s also important to note that DOT 5 cannot be mixed with glycol-based fluids like DOT 3 or DOT 4. Therefore, the braking system must be completely flushed before switching to DOT 5.
Another type of brake fluid for cars is DOT 5.1, which is an upgraded version of DOT 5.
DOT 5.1 is formulated with borate ester and glycol ether, providing enhanced performance and higher resistance to extreme temperatures.
Like DOT 5, it has a high boiling point and can perform well under demanding conditions.
What sets DOT 5.1 apart is its better compatibility with modern braking systems and improved efficiency in maintaining braking stability.
This advanced formulation overcomes the limitations of DOT 5, offering more reliable protection for braking components and ensuring consistent brake response over longer periods.

Aside from coffee and tea, there are several other beverages that also contain caffeine. Generally, caffeine is used to help reduce drowsiness and acts as a natural stimulant.
By consuming caffeine, the brain becomes stimulated to stay focused and alert while suppressing feelings of sleepiness.
Caffeine, a natural chemical compound, can be found in leaves, beans, and fruits. It functions as a central nervous system stimulant that helps increase alertness and reduce fatigue.
This compound works by blocking the effects of a neurotransmitter called adenosine, which builds up throughout the day and causes the body to feel tired.
So, what drinks actually contain caffeine? Find out more below!
SIM A is a driving license that must be owned by every driver of a four-wheeled or more motor vehicle in Indonesia, including passenger cars and commercial vehicles weighing no more than 3.500 kg.
The validity period of SIM A is 5 years from the date of issuance, and once it expires, it must be renewed immediately.
There are renewal fees for SIM A, which include the issuance fee, health test fee, psychological test fee, and insurance fee. Check out the details below!

According to Government Regulation (PP) No. 76 of 2020 concerning the Types and Tariffs of Non-Tax State Revenue (PNBP) that regulates SIM A renewal fees, the issuance fee is IDR 80.000.
If the renewal is done at the Satpas office or Public Service Mall, the fees for the health test, psychological test, and insurance are usually fixed.
The health test generally costs IDR 35.000. The psychological test fee, which was previously IDR 60.000, has increased to IDR 100.000.
However, a cheaper alternative is taking the psychological test online, which costs IDR 57.500. Lastly, the insurance fee is IDR 50.000.
If the rates are the same, you will need to prepare around IDR 265.000 for the SIM A renewal. But if you take the online psychological test, the total will be IDR 222.500.
As the most preferred method by many people these days, here are the steps to renew SIM A via offline:
Visit a SIM renewal service location such as Satpas, SIM Keliling, or a SIM service counter.
Take a SIM renewal application form.
Fill out the form with accurate and complete personal data.
Undergo a physical health examination at the service location.
Have your photo taken and verify your identity.
Make the payment according to the applicable renewal fee.
Wait for the new SIM A to be printed and issued.
Besides offline services, SIM A renewal can also be done online through the official Digital Korlantas POLRI application, available both on Android and iOS. Here’s how:
Download the Digital Korlantas POLRI app to your mobile phone.
Complete the registration process and upload the required documents, such as your ID card (KTP), old SIM, health test result, and passport photo.
Make the payment using the available methods in the app.
Once all steps are completed, your SIM A renewal will be processed and sent to the address provided in the form.
In addition to the fees, there are several requirements you must meet to renew your SIM A, including:
Five photocopies of your e-KTP or ID card
Original SIM A
Medical certificate from a doctor
Certificate of passing the psychological test
Proof of active BPJS Health or National Health Insurance (JKN) membership.
If you plan to renew your SIM A at a Public Service Mall, you must first obtain an online queue number. The renewal process is usually quick, taking about 30 minutes.
So, that’s the breakdown of the SIM A renewal fees you need to prepare and the requirements you must meet to ensure a smooth process. Hopefully, this is useful!
