Coronavirus: Perlukah Diwaspadai?

6 Easy and Fast Ways to Remove Rust from Your Car!

Since most car components are made of metal, such as iron and steel, they are highly prone to oxidation. This risk increases in humid environments when exposed to road salt, dirt, scratches, or damaged paint.

The oxidation process causes rust on cars, and if left untreated, it can spread and cause serious damage. To prevent this, rusty areas must be repaired immediately.

Here are 6 easy and effective ways to remove rust from your car that you can try!

6 Easy and Fast Ways to Remove Rust from Your Car!

Discover 6 quick and easy methods to remove car rust effectively. Read the full guide below!

1. Apply Lubricant to Hidden Parts

One of the simplest methods is applying lubricant to hidden car parts, such as door hinges, the hood, and the trunk.

These areas are often overlooked when cleaning, making them more vulnerable to rust. By applying the lubricant, a protective layer is formed that prevents moisture and air from reaching the metal surface, slowing down the corrosion process.

2. Wash Your Car Regularly, Especially After Rain

Rainwater is slightly acidic and can accelerate the oxidation process, leading to rust. That is why washing your car after rain is highly recommended.

Even when it doesn’t rain, regular car washing helps protect the paint and body from dirt, dust, and pollution while extending the car’s lifespan.

The best time to wash your car is in the morning or afternoon when sunlight is available to speed up drying and help you check hidden areas more easily.

3. Apply Lubricant to Hidden Parts

A rust remover works by lifting rust from the metal surface through a chemical reaction, usually involving phosphoric acid or surfactants.

Besides rust, it can also remove deposits from car components such as wheels, engine blocks, exhaust pipes, and other metal parts, restoring both their look and function effectively.

4. Sand and Repaint

For more severe rust problems, sanding and repainting are the best solutions.

Sanding the rusty surface helps remove the rust layer, making the repainting process more effective. This step also improves paint adhesion, making it last longer and providing better protection.

5. Use Toothpaste

Toothpaste can be surprisingly effective in removing light rust or mold from car components. Its mild abrasive properties help scrub away minor rust.

Apply toothpaste to the rusty area, leave it for a few minutes, then scrub gently and clean off the residue. If the rust remains, repeat the process until it disappears.

6. Try Electrolysis

Electrolysis is a more advanced method of removing rust. It involves soaking the rusty component in an electrolytic solution while applying an electric current.

Through a chemical reaction, this process converts rust back into pure iron. It’s highly effective for treating both light and heavy rust on various car parts.

Those are 6 proven ways to remove rust from your car. Since cars contain many metal components, rust is a common issue that every car owner should be aware of.

By applying the right method, you can protect your car’s durability and keep it looking great for an extended period.
