The same applies to vehicle taxes, such as the car tax. If not paid promptly, the penalty can impact your financial condition. So, how exactly do you calculate it, and what is the fine for late car tax payment?

Amount of Fine for Late Car Tax Payment

The fine that must be paid is calculated based on the length of time the tax has been overdue, consisting of 2 components:

  • PKB Fine or Motor Vehicle Tax, 25% per year of the PKB amount, calculated proportionally per month (25% x months /12).

  • SWDKLLJ Fine, fixed additional charge according to regulations, generally Rp 100.000 for cars, depending on vehicle type.

Car Tax Fine Simulation Based on Length of Delay

  • 1 day late, no fine.

  • 1 week to 1 month late, PKB fine 4.17% + SWDKLLJ.

  • 2 months late, PKB fine 4.17% + SWDKLLJ.

  • 3 months late, PKB fine 6.25% + SWDKLLJ.

  • 4 months late, PKB fine 8.33% + SWDKLLJ.

  • 5 months late, PKB fine 10.42% + SWDKLLJ.

  • 6 months late, PKB fine 12.5% + SWDKLLJ.

  • 7 months late, PKB fine 14.58% + SWDKLLJ.

  • 8 months late, PKB fine 16.67% + SWDKLLJ.

  • 9 months late, PKB fine 18.75% + SWDKLLJ.

  • 10 months late, PKB fine 20.83% + SWDKLLJ.

  • 11 months late, PKB fine 22.92% + SWDKLLJ.

  • 1 year late, PKB fine 25% + SWDKLLJ.

  • 2 years late, PKB fine 50% + SWDKLLJ.

  • 3 years late, PKB fine 75% + SWDKLLJ.

Example of Car Tax Fine Calculation

To better understand the calculation, here is an example of a car tax fine calculation if the payment is late for 6 months, with Motor Vehicle Tax or PKB of Rp 364.200 and SWDKLLJ of Rp 243.000:

  • The formula is, PKB x 25% x 6/12

  • Rp 364.200 + Rp 243.000 x 25% x 6/12 = Rp 394.575

However, please note that the total amount to be paid is not just Rp 394.575. There are additional charges for PKB and SWDKLLJ, making the total Rp 364.200 + Rp 243.000 + Rp 394.575 = Rp 1.001.775, which is the total that must be paid.

The longer the time taken to settle the payment obligation, the higher the fine to be paid.

How to Check a Car Tax Fine

To ensure the amount of fine that must be paid and to get a more accurate PKB fine amount, you can check it through the official e-Samsat website using the following steps:

  • Open the website e-Samsat.id

  • Go to the vehicle tax check menu

  • View the result of the car tax fine check that must be paid. This page also includes information on PKB POK, PKB DEN, SWDKLLJ POK, SWDKLLJ DEN, PNPB STNK, PNPB TNBK, and the tax payment due date.

So, that’s the discussion about how much the fine for late car tax payment is, which you need to know so you can immediately pay your vehicle owner’s obligation. Hopefully, this information is useful!

How Electronic Traffic Tickets Work and Their Settlement Process!

ETLE, which stands for Electronic Traffic Law Enforcement, is an electronic ticketing system currently implemented to support road order and discipline.

With this electronic ticketing system, road safety can be maintained without the need for supervision by physical officers, thanks to rapid technological development.

How Electronic Traffic Tickets Work and Their Settlement Process!

To better understand how the system works and the mechanism behind the current electronic ticketing, check out the explanation below!

1. Violation Capture by ELTE Cameras

Generally, the ETLE system, comprising camera devices, is installed at strategic road locations, such as intersections, toll roads, and other high-traffic, high-violation-prone areas.

This system can automatically capture various types of traffic violations, such as:

  • Not wearing a seat belt.

  • Using a mobile phone while driving.

  • Running a red light.

  • Exceeding the speed limit.

  • Not wearing a helmet for motorcycle riders and passengers.

  • Violating road markings.

  • Vehicles are not using the proper license plate.

Once the camera detects a violation, the system will automatically analyze the recorded images and videos to identify the type of violation committed.

2. Vehicle Data Identification

After detecting a violation, the vehicle data will be matched with the National Police’s motor registration database.

This information typically includes the license plate number, vehicle type, and ownership details, which are then automatically verified.

If the data matches, the registered vehicle owner will receive a direct notification regarding the electronic ticket.

However, if the ownership data has not been updated and the vehicle has changed hands, the registered owner will still receive the ticket notification.

3. Issuance of Confirmation Letter

Once the driver identification process is completed, the next step is sending a ticket confirmation letter to the registered address in the system.

This confirmation letter usually includes the following information:

  • The type of violation committed.

  • The location and time of the violation.

  • Documentation evidence, such as photos or videos.

  • The fine that the vehicle owner must pay.

  • The deadline for confirming the violation.

4. Confirmation by the Vehicle Owner

After receiving the ticket letter, the vehicle owner must confirm it before the deadline either through the official ETLE website or by visiting the designated police office.

There are several options after receiving the confirmation letter:

  • Acknowledge the violation and proceed with the fine payment.

  • File an objection if the violation was not committed by providing supporting evidence at the police station.

If confirmation is not made within the specified time limit, the vehicle registration or STNK may be blocked until the ticket fine is settled.

5. Payment of Traffic Ticket Fine

The final process is paying the fine through various payment methods.

Common payment options usually include:

  • Bank transfer via BRI Virtual Account or BRIVA using the number stated in the confirmation letter.

  • E-wallet applications partnered with the government.

  • Direct payment at designated banks.

After the payment is completed, the ETLE system will update the violation status in real-time, and the vehicle owner will no longer face further penalties.

So, that’s a brief explanation of the electronic traffic ticket system, or ETLE, and its process. Always drive safely, obey the rules, and stay disciplined on the road. Hopefully, this information is useful!
